not really keen on joining mastodon still but i see a lot of folks have gone to various instances, enough that it would probably be a good idea for me to join it even though, again, i would prefer Not To.

i'll update my pinned post when/if i do. been meaning to update it with more links anyway.

but also: whether twitter implodes or not This is the website i want to spend more time on. it's been healthier for me than any previous site i've been on in... a long time.

(i used to be on tumblr, for the record, and twitter is a known hellsite for all the good qualities it does/did have)

so i just finished sonic frontiers (switch version) today, well the story anyway. i want to go back and get every goal for the cyber space levels because i crave 100% completion.

really, really enjoyed this game. it's a bit rough around the edges i'll admit but nothing that detracted from the experience for me, personally (although that pinball minigame can go to hell, and i love pinball). i think i liked exploring the open zone/fighting the guardians more than the cyber space levels, which i didn't expect to be the case. and i really loved the boss fights. i felt like the most powerful being on the planet (until the true final boss anyway, although i genuinely liked that too).

the story and new lore were one highlight for me. i'll readily admit to nostalgia playing a big part, since i played sonic adventure 1 at the age of six, but i've always loved its additions to the (often inconsistent) canon and seeing frontiers expand on it made me smile. the references to other games were nice, too.

the music was great, but i feel like that goes without saying. still, loved this soundtrack. everything fit. a particular highlight for me would be the guardians' themes, especially asura's. perfectly portrays the sheer power and scale of it.

i haven't played a sonic game since... lost world, i think. was interested in forces and mania but never got around to them because at the time i couldn't really afford to get either and then other stuff came up and the years went by. perhaps someday. but i didn't completely walk away from the series (i watched sonic boom, the live-action movies, and now sonic prime; i want to read the comics). just wasn't able to play as many games as i wanted to in the past few years, but i think i'm getting the time back now.

i'm definitely interested in the upcoming dlc, and would like to see frontiers' style expanded on further. i enjoyed the game as is but i think a bit more smoothing out of the rougher edges in a hypothetical sequel will do wonders.

it just really felt nice to be excited about a sonic game again.
