Other gamers are always like "i hate it when games tell me what to do or where to go"
But my slow ass is always grateful bc then I don't have to waste my time parsing thru vague info for no reason and can keep enjoying the game.
Unless your game is specifically going for this atmosphere or is a puzzle game, there's no reason to keep players doing loops for the sake of making the game longer.
If you're going to make me stay in an area for long periods of time, there better be a good reason for it.
Adding to this, I grew up reading strategy guides for fun (and in some cases, instead of touching the games themselves), so it really feels like a whole different generation when a game leaves people to figure it out themselves.
Not that games haven't always had an element of it, but the sense of direction we used to get from print additions is now web-based, if exist at all.
And with such little free time due to late stage capitalism, yeah, yeah I really don't want to waste time "figuring it out" if there's a clear reason to do things/a direction I need to take.
