Finished Through the Ashes! This is worlds better than that fuckery that was Varnhold's Lot in Kingmaker. I hate that final dungeon so much.
But Through the Ashes...was neat. I liked the lower level adventure with more serious stakes, and there were some neat moments where I could actually think out an approach and be rewarded for it, balancing managing my resources and looking for openings in the enemy offensive line in a satisfying way. It became Trash Fight Simulator by the end once I hit level four and could steamroll most cultists, but by that point it was a cathartic feeling I enjoyed, finally able to get back at those pricks.
Lord of Nothing looks like it's going to return to old fashion adventuring, down to having combat experience, which I'm fine with. I like the little gimmick they came up with where you get demonic shards to gain some unique buffs, so there's a sort of ascension thing going on but downplayed and given a moodier tone. It's neat.
