Whatever happened to extremely boring generic motherboards that didn't die in five years and had more than three expansion slots? Hell whatever happened to graphics cards that didn't take up TWO expansion slots, not because they need both of them, but because they're CHONKY

Maybe I'm out of the loop because I don't look at fancy motherboards, but... what is that 7-segment display in the top corner?? Does this motherboard show you your clock speed or something?
That's an error / boot code display! If something goes wrong, rather than just turning on an error led, it gives a two-digit hex code that you can look up in the manual to find out what went wrong.
I believe they're usually in high-end motherboards, mostly useful for overclocking, but also just a nice-to-have for setting up because any system can fail to boot.
most lower-end motherboards just have a few LED signals for like "CPU" or "RAM", or just one LED that flashes in a pattern you have to interpret.
Ohh, that's actually awesome! I'm more used to the flashing-LED motherboards, but this is way clearer (plus it probably gives more nuanced error info).
yeah it's an extremely good feature and the reason i even came across these design sins is because i was watching a video about how sadly these 7 segment error code displays are only found on $500+ motherboards nowadays, for no good reason (the reason is saving pennies while pressuring enthousiasts to buy into a higher price class than they need), while a few generations ago you'd find them on like $150 mobos or cheaper
on whatever update of the bios on this board it also shows CPU temperature in °C post-POST, which is kind of nice but wasn't obvious at first

At the same time if you're adding all that cast aluminum heat spreaders to your board you might as well brand it

there weren't really better options, HEDT is more or less dead since consumer devices have grown upwards to consume that market space (it's all $10k+ workstations up there now), and At Least You Can Turn The Gamer LEDs Off
i wanted the case with the opaque side panel instead of the glass one but they didn't have it. oh well at least i can see the CPU temperature readout in this revision
oh i would never blame anyone for buying any motherboard regardless of its design. its a good featureful board! function over form!
i'm pointing the finger squarely at the designers that make designs like this executives that force the designers to make designs like this because its what the think gamers want
