saw a post about it earlier but I earnestly believe the reason so many people refuse to leave Twitter and continue to spend so much of their time on it despite claiming to hate it is like, very simply, social media addiction. there's such a narrow view of what social media addiction actually is ("stupid" toxic queer teens on TikTok who believe anything they see and engage in petty fandom drama) that their pride gets in the way of maybe recognizing that their relationship to social media is actively harmful (both self-harmful and to others)

it's clear that Twitter is becoming an alt-right site and quickly so it's everybody else's fault that Twitter is bad, and also I need to be on Twitter for work; nevermind the fact that I'm on it for significant portions of every day of my life. I can quit whenever I want, I'm just waiting for another site to get big. no, not that one. I still want it to be exactly like Twitter. hang on, I need to QRT this random blue check who pissed me off with their awful take no one whose politics even mildly align with mine would agree with on any level so I can... make sure all my followers see how bad it is, too. lmao.

Uninstalled Twitter a few days ago to detox myself and I think I've been trying pretty hard not to say the A-word about my usage of it, but given the fact I'm even referring to it as a detox says enough. I think you hit the nail on the head.
