I have realized I may be a worse player than I am a DM, and potentially for a dumb reason.
I typically make DMPC's upon player request either to fill a niche they're missing or just to have fun, which everyone seems to enjoy! But I've gotten so used to roleplaying passive, supportive, or flat out background-esque characters that I'm reluctant to take the spotlight even in situations where it's encouraged for character development or have part of their story weaved into the plot. While it doesn't bother people it's a hard mindset to get out, and it sucks, despite the wonderful people at my table.
Perhaps one day I'll mature as an individual where these two mentalities can sit separately, but until such time comes I have much to learn.
