Post-Dystopias.
Slowly the world is building back after being rife with inequality and injustice for decades, or even centuries. Humanity (or whatever species fancies your suit) is slowly re-discovering its agency, and the value of community, education, and nature. Starry-eyed idealists dismissed by former generations eventually reach an age where they can defy the status quo, and have the power to make something better than what came before with what little they have.
Slowly the world starts changing. Not from revolution, not from rebellion, but from large swaths of people just becoming fed up with the way things are, and doing something about it. People simply start ignoring the corrupt and oppressive powers that be. It becomes harder and harder for those in control to convince or propagandize enough manpower to enforce their rule. Until eventually, they're forced to give up, unable to strike fear into a population that's realized it has absolutely nothing to lose.
People cut through red tape wherever they find it. Every useless rule meant to create division is cast aside, and people use whatever they have. Every resource available is repurposed and shared wherever it's needed. Empty office buildings become sleeping quarters. Decorative lawns become gardens for food. Trees are planted in every patch of dirt. Renewable energy becomes the norm after the power grid is shut down in an attempt to punish the quiet uprising. Entire civilizations rise up in the middle of hostile cities that have no way of stopping them.
People trade and share what they have, and knowledge and skills are valuable above all else. If you can disassemble a car and repurpose it into a generator, or identify and grow the best plants to eat, or recover lost data from encrypted libraries of knowledge, you're welcomed into the community with open arms.
I think it'd be pretty cool to explore this idea of a successful resistance without a revolution. Not a sudden shift in power that shakes a world not ready for it, but a population ready for change and willing to just make it happen in the most direct way possible.
My sister and her boyfriend made this, I just stole it because they don't have cohost lol
