It's really just an equivalent to "eat your veggies, kids in Africa would like to have what you have" or "you can't complain about x because other people have it worse"

It's trying to downplay the experience/problem by implying that it's either nothing (your problems are nothing in the huge amount of existing ones) or that actually helping you would be a "privilege" (if no ones talk abt it, why wold you be allowed to).

Proper support and mental health is somehow too much for the average person

(the veggies comparison's not ideal but you get it)

Yeah, I'd agree. I think I hear it the most from folks who feel other folks problems are not valid (I feel like most of the folks who follow me have an unfortunately large amount of experience with this).

I feel like i also see it when folks are unsure of how to help but refuse to be humble enough to admit it. Or, even worse, they assume that since they don't know how to help then therefore it must be either impossible to actually fix or, perhaps, something that would take more effort than they can reasonably apply to the problem.

Not sure how to help with the first one, but the second part of my statement is in response to the second. I think if folks could be humble enough to admit they want to help but aren't sure how or if they have the capacity... I mean, I think folks appreciate the sympathy if nothing else.
