I still have moments where I worry I’m going to be watching a stream from one of my faves and some terf is going to go after me in chat. And then the streamer takes their side and suddenly everyone is after me and (etc etc).

Which is odd because, at least on the small streams I watch, I’ve been expressly told by the streamers that they support trans-femmes so one can probably assume they would be supportive in a situation like that. And, honestly, with how these streamers act, I doubt many terfs would be hanging around to begin with.

But you know how fears are illogical?

It’s gonna be fine!

I know that I'm always really afraid of streamers I'm watching making some really edgy jokes, myself (like the sort of stuff you'd see on anime imageboards...), but the terf situation, although something that would absolutely devastate me if it happened, isn't really something that'd happen...... because most of the folks I watch are trans to begin with, pff. I do know it's not very helpful saying "watching trans folks would probably make you feel secure about that!!", but y'know...... trans people are some of the best streamers, that's a fact.

If you know it's bad brain stuff with the streams you watch, though, then hopefully such anxieties can simply be overcome!! And if the communities really are small ("small" to me implies sub-10 viewers, dunno if that's accurate), then, if nothing else, interacting with the streamer and forming a positive acquaintanceship in the process would, hopefully, help make them value your own input and such, if a fucking terf ever did show up.

Terf shows up and you, rightly, go "this fucking sucks" and the streamer concurs, destruction unfolds. That sort scenario isn't that unlikely, I think!! I don't know what sorta folks you regularly watch, but hopefully they'd orbital cannon fuckers like that.

Yeah, it's kind of funny because it feels, to me, that there's really only two outcomes if a terf shows up. Either I find out that the streamer is an idiot in which case...I go elsewhere. Otherwise the terf gets banned to the stone age and I don't need to worry.

As for who I watch...I don't really watch much these days I guess. In fact the only one I watch with any regularity recently is a cis-lesbian who's supportive of trans-femmes (unless I'm misremembering). I had been following a couple trans streamers but, in their cases, they either got political or folks showed up who wanted to be political and I guess I just wanted to avoid that so I wondered of.

Though I should clarify, I do watch more than just one stream, it's just that most of them are kinda bigger streamers whom I never expect to interact with and whom, in general, I just close chat for because I'm just not interseted.

Regardless, the fear is definitely a bit unreasonable. I just need to figure out how to root it out of my system I think :D
