there's lore that hasn't dropped yet so i can't give a complete answer because i don't want to explain it in a post, SO... the short answer is that it's more common for animal folk to be androgynous or genderfluid in this universe, and the various different types have various feelings on gender as a concept due to their cultures. example: rabbits care more about the gender binary, so it took longer for danny to accept themself as agender. for wolves it's a nonissue (powder was accepted immediately, and trick never had gendered expectations placed on them to begin with).
now on the meta level: i think it would send the wrong message if animal folk were the only ones allowed to be trans/nb. which is why they're not! i've got witches of all different genders! but the reason i say it's more likely for them is because i feel like trans/nb people often relate to "other" type characters, because their experience in society is often feeling othered.
anyway, that's my goal--i think it's fun if the characters who can canonically change their form are often trans, because that feels empowering to me (or at least comfy). i hope people don't interpret this as dehumanizing because the whole point of animal folk and the core message of LWT is literally that they are all human and deserve respect.
