Quake 3 always felt like the peak of iD doing the "we made an engine, but it's hard to sell that without a demo game" thing.

Sometimes I play fighting games, but usually fighting games play me. Lets all learn, grow, and become better people together...or not, I'm not your mom. Avatar by Crossmirage (She's the one I'm bullying in the drawing).

Do you play the solo content or online ?
Personally I could never really get into it either, I always liked UT better.
i won't go that far but i'd definitely rather play QuakeWorld given the choice. maybe it's related to network prediction, but Q3 has a weird not 100% solid feel that i've never been able to fully come to terms with. it especially affects my shotgun (lack of) aim.
will also say UT99 has much stronger aesthetics than the garish, somewhat random-feeling Q3
Hey this is genuinely a fair take and a valid opinion but I'm just as curious as to which games have stood the test of time for you from that era. I'd love to know more about what you do like.
quake 3 is kinda bland tbh
like it's fine and kind of the 'gold standard' for a reason, but UT is far more interesting. or HLDM. Or HL2DM.
