Or "What the fuck is this game going to be about". I'm just firing off ideas below the read more, just to see if something speaks to me or if an idea spawns something interesting.
Day 1
First thing I thought of was "how can I turn a hoard on its head", but then I realized just going "Ha HA this barbarian tribe who're rampaging everywhere are elves!" is just as bad as using the default stuff.
Similarly, I thought about using Orcs and Goblins and such, but they're being controlled en mass by some wizard. I don't know how I feel about this or what this capital-M Means.
I have a game I started to think of for Dungeon World years ago that I could dust off. The Gates of Shangra-la, a mythical gate that grants a which when it is walked through. This turns it into a race campaign with the party intersecting with multiple groups also vying for the gate through different paths/methods. The Secret though is that the wish isn't necessarily granted. The world is just remade with that Wish being part of the foundation of the new world. You may become wealthy in this new world, but it could be you never remembered being poor, or the thing you needed the money for is still unaddressed.
I'm also contemplating just using the Beacon reflection generator to get something, and have a weirdly supernatural element chase the party or get interacted with. Make a PF version of the Scourge. One Scourge name I got was "The New Dawn" and went "That sounds like someone trying to conquer a lot of new land".
I might steal some like, web graph design for a points of light style design and just make hubs with spokes. Hell, taking something from HMTW and making it a hub city delve might be fun.
Day 2
Right now, the group wants to operate out of a hub city. Did a His Majesty the Worm city generation to come up with a starting city, if I use it I'll outline it more. I want to look up at least one more city game. Maybe I'll rope someone(s) into playing The Quiet Year since thats mirebased on a singlr location.
I'm also thinking about just ripping off Unova and or Kalos from Pokemon and... Wait a second paldea is perfect for this because I can go "center area, snow area swamp area desert area" and have them fork off the plains that surround the town.
I have trouble with D&D, PF and DW because the generic fantasy has a too few guardrails for me. I like being a bit more constrained.
We'll see how this goes!
