in a way, all posting is posting into the void. for example, let’s take when needs to happen for someone to see your post when you post something on cohost. you would need to make sure the person follows you and they happen to be on the website when you post it (or within the window they’re willing to scroll back to when they check it later). even then, the feeling of posting into an uncaring void won’t leave unless you get some comments (or maybe a number of likes if that’s your threshold).

i’m mostly talking about this because i was thinking about people who are worried about moving to a blog because of that feeling of posting to nobody, and i think something that really helps is making sure it is as easy as possible to turn a post into a dialogue. comments can be good, but i also really recommend dropping an email (and begging people to email it) or contact form or something to remove the friction. it doesn’t feel like posting into the void when the void talks back
