it might not have utf support, check if those have diacritics or special characters or non-ascii ones etc
found out modern things still don't think about this when the default vlc playlist format just completely omits songs with Unicode, six hours after meticulously adding things to be in chronological album order
ugh... vlc is suboptimal; i usually just chuck everything into the playlist widget, kick the shuffle button in and hope for the best. but this way vlc wont really shuffle but at every songs end it rolls for the currently unfolded list, while the folders remain mainly folded until they get a turn... in this i like foobar2000s desktop application better and that one deff has unicode support
