Art deco getting another look is not that astonishing, really. After all, in many ways we have arrived at another historical cross roads where many things look similar to about a century ago. This week I learned that what really makes us special is not that we use tools but that we are very social beeings. If we were not social, we would not have common languages and even inside languages common protocols. Protocols within protocols... wild. Also I learned that you could very much compare this era to when the weimar republic turned into the 3rd reich.

Our weimar republic ancestors have just "all" finished installing electricity, running water and gas into their homes, unstructured energy. Enabling them to do all kinds of things THEIR ancestors were unable to do at home. Like using electric power drills. Or set up a lathe and try your hand at lathing some cool shit they saw on the shopfloor at work. Except, they couldn't because they were toiling away at their soulcrushing stupid idiot job that could be automated away (at least in a couple of years, surly someone would invent an automatic switching system, or an automatic accounting system where you no longer had to calculate the sums by hand....). Now, finally. Two world wars and half a century later, my parents generation were all pretty content when getting their landline, and later their DSL line with 700kB if they were lucky, now they get structured energy delivered at home, you can set up a computer to use this and perhaps even try your hand at programming them, except now again they didnt have the time really due to soulcrushing stupid jobs that could be automated away soon.

Nowadays "everyone" has some kind of internet subscription at home, receiving very structured data. Energy that has been highly preprocessed by the industry. (A parallel could be made for how our food is being more and more processed.. will we have a subscription line for a "soup" that comes out of the wall in 100 years? Maybe we will have invented something more elegant, perhaps we can someday utiliza quantum teleportation to tell a cloud of molecules to take the shape and taste of a burger with fries?) The internet has enabled us to do all kinds of wonderous things. But we can't allow history to just keep repeating without realizing that there is a pattern and it should be easy to see that we shouldn't explore this idea of consumerism and outsourcing everything that is shit to another country. We have to take responsibility for the crap we want. When the victorians tried to sell shit to china it was mostly shit produced using resources sourced through slavery. Nowadays we produce plastic crap instead and rob everyone's children of a future instead of just those who look different or are born at the wrong side of a border. Same goes for what most people think of about the internet, i.e. social media: preprocessed fast data and participant-discovery like that of ponzi schemes with a dash of tragedy of the commons (attention)

But worse than our attention: We have allowed the tragedy of the commons to also happen to our collective humanity, again. Again we have allowed capitalism to lure us into its silvery spiderweb of sticky finance. Promising us we could keep the scraps if we only clear out the spiderwebs, entangling our minds ever more into its grip. And just the way our ancestors in the era of the weimar republic have allowed imperialism to turn into fascism we are just not doing enough to audit ourselves as a people. We as a people of humans, have to stop repeating the same crap all over again. We as a people of intelligent and social monkeys need to realize our true potential and that it is contradicting to how capitalism wants us to be. Capitalism want's us to be easily categorizable (m/f) and most importantly it wants to measure what we emmit and what we consume in every way possible. But that is not being human. Being human is having not just a dick or a vag, but just being what you are and your peers seeing you for who you ARE to them in that moment. On the other hand we do want to at least control what we consume and emit. Here I am specifically thinking about the covid pandemic. To me this is a strong indication that socializing via VR will be the next big computing thing. If only we can hold off the world wars for a bit.

the internet was an experiment, the web 2.0 a proof of concept, the coming federated web is a prototype for the coming humanistic computing revolution, when people enter the computing worlds to interact naturally with their systems. Instead of silly buttons and metaphors, we will use sign and spoken language to communicate naturally to our peers and systems what we want and who we are. Expression of oneself can always only be a reprojection of an already consumed projection. We are a people of remixers. Of course we want to profit. Because they taught us, we as a people have to, so secretly they could extract some for themselfs. But we can only emit what we have seen or heard before and we only see preprocessed media; the job keeps us from spending time with the things we truly want to spend time with; And so, in helping the rich get richer and robbing us our times freedom, we rob ourselfes of our humanity and the chance to experience, consume, process, remix and later perhaps reproject what we love. Instead we experience the same shit everyday. And so we reproject shit.

BUT WE ARE REMIXERS! before we would write our stories down, we would just tell them to each other, ideas were traded freely, everyone passing by and catching an idea profited from it in some way and put out their version of it. Everything had to be taken with a grain of salt and everyone was a socialy enabled commoner. Of course people tried to control information but information wants to be free, so it is.

then came the written language and what at first was an experiment and art form soon was used to write down exact recipees and instructions and historical events and perhaps even to hide them from others.

Soon we invented ways to mass produce books so it was easy to sell information to many people. But soon people would want to know who said what and when ...

we need vr now to work because next time itl be a nonoptional direct neural link our meaty bodies wont handle ww3 so we wil have to adapt

Hitler was the first to broadcast a sports event. And he spewed his propaganda out into the universe. As I understand, this broadcast was extremely energetic transmission-power-wise, but since we have found ways to recover weaker signals which enabled us to transmit using less power. So what is the next big thing a fascist will use on us? We have already been played, and are perpetually being played by social media.
