for some reason (either because the ubuntu installer is SLOW running off my usb stick or because something else) when i was installing ubuntu the other night, my happy hacking keyboard wouldnt send ctrl+alt+Fn+some-number to switch to another tty (usually my go to method of checking wether or not the system is still responding) so i dug out my good old model m.. but that one wouldnt start up on a cold boot, i need to wait up to grub, and ctrl+alt+del with another keyboard there to get the model m to work during the next boot... must be a bug in the bios or something... and this is without a ps2->usb adaptor since i have none of those.. only a usb to ps2 mouse adaptor... womp womp
