I remember having a friend who was into a thing called Red Orchestra, I gather it was a quasi-simulation depicting the russian front during ww2. It was sometime before 2010 so I guess the landscape changed a lot since then.

It is was a mod at first, RO2 was a real game.

Well, Wiki says RO: Ostfront was a real game, but I didn't know about it/was too late to play it.

Downhill from there, Rising Storm 2: Vietnam, spinoff of a standalone expansio, is garbo.
