This app exists because of capitalism

Starting with an L is not a good look?

our phones exist because of capitalism

kind of unprovable, though capitalism sure is cool with extracting REMs with child labor

these guys can make stupid videos because of capitalism.

pretty sure you don't need a profit incentive to create a stupid video. However, only profit incentive can give us Five Minute Crafts and pregnant Elsa spiderman.

Without capitalism there would be one phone created by the government

As opposed to either The Expensive Phone With Dumb Features and 500 Near Identical Cheap Phones That Track Your Every move?

one app for entertainment created by the government

As opposed to the functional monopoly enjoyed by YouTube? Though, of course, he may have streaming services in mind...

and one form of content created by the government

Even if you look at Stalinist USSR, they didn't go all-in on one art form or, say, only ever produce war movies. MCU has done more to homogenize cinema than any Soviet bureaucrat could ever dream of

No freedom of creativity

Art, notably absent before invention of capitalism

and no opportunity to make money or become rich for our ideas.

You don't even need to look at Google buying out the competition or plagiarizing smaller companies into the ground or the fact that Patreon makes most of its money from a very small percentage of Patreon artists that actually make money. You just need to see the brain-rot indicating word opportunity

Just funny to watch a bunch of content creators/ artists make fun of capitalism when you are all capitalists.

Was capitalism invented though?

I am sure a cursory reading of history would show a semi-capitalist system dominating the economy of most civilizations.

Personally, and without doing any research on this theory, I think that the egregious wealth gap we see today is due to the lack of the corrective forces that have historically reshuffled wealth.

Wars, famine, natural disasters, revolutions, rebellions, plagues, government changes, royalty changes, and major technological breakthroughs, were all factors that would stop the accumulation of wealth by certain individuals and redistribute that wealth into the economy.

However, we have reached a point where the capitalist is immune to these forces because their capital has become global, and the most major threat of technological changes can be easily swallowed by how much capital they have.

While in theory, competition means several strong fishes in the sea, we now actually have massive whales that eat all of the fish.

Wars, famine, natural disasters, revolutions, rebellions, plagues, government changes, royalty changes, and major technological breakthroughs

I'm fairly certain that most if not all of those ended with a lot of Little Guys buying it, so to speak, and the Already Rich people coming out on top.

Especially applicable to technological change, since the rich are already better placed to make use of any new invention. That crypto enthusiasts missed this somehow is mind-boggling.

That's what I meant with the whale analogy. These forces usually killed off the what and reset the pond, but we didn't have such cataclysmic events since WWII now, and the rich are have the capital to buy everything that could threaten them.

They also could survive any disaster due to not being tethered to any one place.

These factors are relatively new in the realm of human history.

I feel like it's the logical outcome of capitalism as it puts profit above all other concerns as a basic assumption. It's not like capitalism was good like 100 or 200 years ago when you had Pinkertons literally fighting battles with striking miners.

The only change - in worker rights and other things - I feel came from the specter of communism, of having to cut down on the excesses of capital so as to keep people from running over to the other side.

But with the USSR falling, everyone declared that the Alternative has failed, so everything was back on the table, because where else would the people go? This is the only viable system!!!

these guys can make stupid videos because of capitalism.

People have been making stupid videos to put on the Internet when monetizing the Internet wasn't even an idea. Earning money from it is just the icing on the cake

Considering how many issues creators have with YouTube and now Patreon... you have to jump through many hoops to get your money, including the platforms you're on trying to sabotage you!
