I only vaguely remember the first reveal ages ago of it being the game where you can shoot and eat Pokemon. Might not even be the same game.

Normally, I don't care about Pokemon-type games, but I've seen at least two respectable posters [read: cohosters I follow] marvel at how bad Palworld is in non-specific terms WHILE it has a fucking banner up on Steam. So I'm now interested!

I didn't really follow the whole thing.
I only know it looked like a joke game months/years ago and now it exists and has some success.
I gather that people are pissed at it mostly for being an opportunistic thing put together with the help of AI by some crypto tech bro ? It being kinda disgusting too and it being hard to tell how much is to be seen as ironic/satirical stuff ? Lastly having crazy success when much more carefully put together stuff barely gets seen ?
The thing is it's getting decent reviews and for all I know it could be functional and full of emergent gameplay possibilities and honestly, I could see myself being into it if it didn't come from such a garbage source and didn't have the rotty smell all over it. Also if I had a machine to play it.

I already made a post, but I have more thoughts on it.

With regards to the AI question, the current posture its defenders have locked into repeating is: There is no actual proof it was made with AI!
Now since I'm a terminal twitter lurker and never take part in these ethereal rounds of discourse, I might as well shit out my Take just to get it out of my system.

I find this circular back & forth to be silly. Whether it was made with any AI involvement is a moot point when you have gameplay systems and character designs which are so 'inspired' that the end result is the most uninspired game of all time. So the question of, Was man or machine responsible here? Well the finished product is so fucking soulless, it really makes no difference.

A lot of folks seem to have locked into this pseudo-populist mindset of accepting shitty art as "for the people" and thus straying away from criticizing it, going so far as to shield it from justified criticism. Fuck that. I am not concerned with policing anyone's consumption choices, but I'm also not going to censor myself when I recognize a degenerative blight on the medium I love. The "Let people enjoy things" model of media consumption is dead. Be ruthless with bad art.
