To them, USSR throwing widows and orphans out of their homes isn't something special (and their supported systems do the same thing), but to a leftist, that's one of the core things a socialist state should never do.
To them, USSR turning reactionary in response to sexual liberation isn't anything abhorrent - for some, it's even a reasonable reaction - because they don't see freeing everyone as one of the major raison d'etres of a state.
To them, the Red Army becoming a hellhole where new conscripts were robbed as well as physically and sexually abused is just another anecdote why the commies are wrong and not a deep betrayal from a state that let prison life degenerate to such a hellpit that when they started conscripting prisoners due to lack of volunteers, that prison culture infected the Army.
