So this is the more interesting part of the game I played with JC.
I took most of a Volksgrendier battalion, cutting out a company of rifles, and taking as many automatics as I could. The idea here was smash into JC's lines with the auto armed volks, backed up by 2 panthers and the organic artillery of the battalion. I also brought one TRP, placing it in a bunch of woods that seemed like a safe spot where JC would hole up some infantry (partly cause I did in my soviet game, where they sat undetected for the entire game). For AT, aside from the panthers, which I expected to have a high chance of losing, I was primarily relying on Panzershrecks (PSKs). I had something like 8-9 of em, as the late war nazi war machine was not shy in cranking these and the fausts out. Usually, their fate was not to destory allied tanks, but rather to fall into allied hands after being abandoned without use. The allies then would use them in urban street fighting, and to breach fortifications.
It's easy to see why in this battle. My two panthers ended up scoring the only armor kills of the match. The 4ish PSK teams that engaged armor managed to between them land one non critical shot. Every other shot missed.
On to the panthers, they're task was to attack JC when he was the most vulnerable, which was the opening phase of the battle as he was setting up. I reasoned that he'd try and move most if not all his armor into the railway station, which required them to slowly cross the fords in the area. A perfect target. This ended up petering out almost as soon as I made contact with his armor. I managed to destroy one T34 with a panther, which then got knocked out by a unseen T34. The infantry on both tanks ended up getting bogged down in a prolonged firefight over a unimportant stretch of woods, neither side really accomplishing much other than wasting lives. This would also be where most of the action was the entire game. The Railway station only started seeing action towards the very end of the battle, outside of some random harassing fire by me.
Which, the main bulk of the killing though was by the arty. 21 to the LeIGs, and about 22 to the Mortars. Both were out of ammo by the match end, with one LeIG refusing to fire at all during the entire affair.
All and all, I'm glad we ceasefired, because I sure as hell didn't have the manpower nor support to do much other than try and annoy JC enough that he can't make a solid thrust anywhere. Which, I ended up doing, but that doesn't win you battles.
it just makes dead pixeltruppen.
