Extra Credits noted GWs practice of licensing it's IP. Unlike comic or book IPs, they only hand out slivers, and incomplete pictures.
It's less an example of providing for untapped markets, as it is a strategy to increase IP reach by crossing over into markets that otherwise would ignore the company and branding.

In fairness, such practice is why I even play 40k these days, as it was the early games they licensed (Fire Warrior) that wet my appetite. I'm sure there are others with similar on-ramps

not related but i hope theres at least a brief bit where you can control the imperial guard tanks in space marine 2 a bit. thatd be so satisfying. they look so damn good, let me use them!!

want more scifi vehicle combat games that arent bound by realism in general. stop digging for "what about obscure 1939 vehicle #5830285380" and just make something sick. also god i want something like warno/steeldivsion but scifi...

Personally, I'm tired of arcadey vehicles and think all of them should be more realistic in capabilities, damage modelling, etc., whilst maintaining arcadey/user-friendly controls.

Arguably, MechWarrior is the hardcore scifi vehicle sim (with caveats) as you have to care about tonnage, platform variants, ECM, etc.

I assume you want a sci-fi RTS without base building? So like Ground Control I, potentially II? Clancy's Endgame, maybe? I'd say SW: Empire at War if ground part wasn't the weakest part...

Realistic damage modeling definitely seems more fun to me too.

Ahh, I played MW5 recently briefly but bounced off it because it felt rather damage spongey, so it felt like too much of a slow damage race in a way that made a lot of factors less meaningful, but maybe I should give it a longer try

Never heard of Ground Control! Even has a coop campaign, maybe ill try that with my husband. Theres also a dawn of war 2 mod id like to play with him..

hi5 for realistic damage modeling. And giving all the MGs, smoke launchers, etc. a tank is supposed to have

MWO fucked me up because it's an MP PVP game with the longest TTK on the marget, which translates to me sucking the hardest I had ever sucked at a PVP game.

Unless something changed significantly, don't give MW5 Mercs a chance because the non-plot missions are garbage. There's like three objectives total and it's extremely boring.

I had a legal copy of GC1 as a teen. Basically the game that first broke my brain with directional armor. GS2 I only played the demo once. Do tell me how it goes.

I have a lot of negative feelings towards DoW2, but do tell me the mod?

With realistic damage modeling I just feel like it adds so much nuance and makes more tactics matter, like flanking with a fast tank with shitty armor and a good gun and getting a quick gunner knockout feels really meaningful and I just like all the weird nail-biter situations you can get into.. youd think itd make things more binary than HP design but I feel like it really doesnt

Good to know about MW5, thanks.

Dawn of War II: Codex Edition. Adds tech priests and tau, makes AI not lmaololrofl, makes combat further ranged(so more realistic i suppose), higher pop cap, etc. https://www.moddb.com/mods/unofficial-codex-edition

Honestly I very much like DOW2 quite a bit from playing with friends / an older AI mod / elite mod(which adds a fun inquisitors faction with grey knights etc), scratches some real good itches in ways that DOW1/COH dont.

Yesss! Regular-ass HP pools and not being inflict some crippling damage fast is what dooms any sort of raiding/glass cannon thing in games since they need to stay in place to do anything.

There's going to be a campaign-driven MW5 game (previously, the series would start an iteration with a campaign game, then release Mercenaries, but it got reversed this time), so it's hopefully gonna be better.

I'd probably be neutral on general DoW playstyle, but God-damn, did the campaigns get worse and more badly made with every DLC.

The main campaign is perfectly forgettable, but the DLC ones just actively work to piss me off with stuff like Hellhound Boss and CAMPAIGN FOR EVERY FACTION [actually, it's literally the same].

Oh yeah the any-race expansion campaign was pretty disappointing after one playthrough. I did enjoy the base campaign as like "not really playing an RTS, playing some hero party thing", was fun to coop through with husband, and I liked the corruption mechanic in the second one. But i did indeed want a normal RTS campaign and none delivered..

So most of my fun ended up being skirmishes with friends with AI mods.
