I was designed in 1957 by Douglas (they wouldn't merge with MacDonnell for another 10 years yet), and 3000 of me were made. I was detonated only once and there was an audience of approximately six people, five stupidly patriotic USAF officer volunteers and one photographer who must have been questioning his life choices. Not counting the flight crew, USAF Captain Eric William Hutchison (pilot) and USAF Captain Alfred C. Barbee (radar operator) flying an F-89J over Yucca Flats for this test firing, designated "Operation Plumbbob."

And what's an easy way to take down a bomber formation in a time before reliable AAMs?

Just fucking chuck a nuke in the middle of it.

Better one exploding somewhere above the clouds rather than five hitting Washington!
