mine is that magic systems that try and be all realistic and grounded instead of just letting you cast fireballs and stuff suck

put a little sci fi in there. give your setting a few alien robots and laser guns.

If you look at ancient fantasy games (ADnD, Ultima), they include literal sci-fi stuff, like crashed alien ships, and no harm is done.

Who cared about alium robits, we have trolls and magic on our side

or more close to unrelatable that I don't care about it

If you, say, extrapolate from modern naval combat, if a ship isn't entirely automated, it will have a small crew telling systems high level orders as drone fighters close in to launch anti ship missiles and/or railgun rounds

Most of them miss or are intercepted

One hit and the ship is vaporized

That's it. It's like combat in Honnor Harrington series, but even more boring.

And if you far enough to where weapons sling graviton waves that have to be absorbed by tachyon-folded space, just fuck off

Graviteam Tactics is supposedly the best tactical/real time WW2 game (take that, Battlefrontailures).

Unfortunately, it's a) a hardcore historical wargame that's b) made by Ukrainians.

That means that tutorialization is nearly non-existent and not exactly easy to understand.

So a few years ago, I learned the bare basics of the game on YouTube from Arch Warhammer.

He goes by Arch now because he shit the bed so hard being a reactionary dipshit that GW made him drop Warhammer from his title.

The tutorials helped, sure, but were delivered in the tone of a faux sophisticate that every jackass who ever bought a fedora tried to be.
