I remember being thoroughly unimpressed with it. I guess it's rightfully RIP now.
Granted, I sometimes latch onto a style of gameplay (Day of Infamy's slower, more hardcore, "realistic" type) as being the Objectively Right one for a type of game (tatical WW2 FPS) and the rest (twitch-shooters) I declare obsolete.
The heavy-metal Chamon wizard can be tied to the fluff to explain why the troops look more ornate than whatever will pass for a state troop at the time.
I'll just say that they're a company from Tilea/Estalia/Border Princes, nobody knows/gives a shit about what happens there.
