Bolter and chainsword are the most iconic weapons of 40K, but the rules have failed to make them anything more than a lasgun +1 back to the days of Rogue Trader.
Look here: the only difference between auto-pistol and bolt pistol is that an autopistol hurts a human on a d6 roll of 4+ while a bolt pistol does so on a 3+
