what a nice way to both let your character artist flex, and to instantly build a rapport both between the characters and player, and between the characters themselves in-lore 😎 it's a very...human way to do UI design lol.

i love these but can't think of any other game that did this except Dragon's Crown (and the Jet Set Radio games if we're going 3D). anyone know of other examples?

Fatal Fury 3! also staged at a bar, as it happens.

There are a ton of "group image of composited characters" select screens in fighting games, but not a ton where they're explicitly portrayed as being together in a specific location... Sailor Moon S is somewhere in between, I suppose.

Here's one from Shining Soul II, the GBA loot treadmill—the characters all look towards the player when you put the cursor on 'em:
