I respect the heck outta the +shield/-sword build, it's what my heart always went with when taking the flavor text in consideration. :3
+shield/-sword is how I've always done it. It's a much harder game, though. Jimmy seems to just go to town on the enemies, where as I tend to play a little more bait-and-counter/fire spam

Despite dropping the sword I go heavy on that aerial combo until getting stuff like thunder and gravity, but I think a lot of that's carryover from first playing this game as a 9 year old and not really understanding how the mechanics worked.
Also yeeeaaaahhhh stuff like Deep Jungle and the Tower of London really make the worldbuilding lore confusing (and that's before adding China and France in later games as well). A lot of stuff I'm sure we're not supposed to ever think about too much but it makes you wonder about how the world even worked before everything got split up.
