One of the really interesting things about Cube, and to a degree, limited formats in general, is when players find something that you never even considered. I do a lot of test drafts of my cube when I'm changing things, to get a feel for decks and to look for cards that feel out of place, but one of the parts of being a cube designer is that you inadvertently end up drilling your archetypes into your head, and it becomes a bit harder to draft your cube in a more natural way.
The neat thing about doing test drafts on Cube Cobra is that the 7 bots that are also drafting will build decks out of their card pools. Now they aren't usually amazing, a lot of times they'll have cards together seemingly randomly, and they don't really clock synergies all that well, but they usually do at least stay about 2-3 colors. And I was looking at those bot decks because, even if imperfect, they do at least slightly resemble real decks, and you can edit them if maybe they had better cards in their side board.
I came across a deck labeled WUG (White, Blue, and Green) and I was looking at it and at first I laughed because the bot had a some non-synergistic stuff going on, a Blink deck with a some things that relied on having Counters, which of course, disappear when they are Blinked. But I noticed one card that had a really cool synergy I never would have though of with my 'Inside the Box' mindset while drafting.
Abuelo, and Agents Tool Kit! Together this is really interesting, because Abuelo can Blink Artifacts, and the Tool Kit enters with an array of different counters, so you can have your creatures enter, move one of the counters from the Tool Kit onto them, and when your Tool Kit starts to run low, you can just Blink it and essentially reload it for even more use! And even further, you can Blink your own creatures and give them different counters for different situations! Maybe giving a shield counter for blocking, then Blinking the creature and giving it a deathtouch counter for bite effects, or a +1/+1 counter to dodge damage based removal!
This post is kinda just a flash in the pan thing for me that really asserts my love for cube. So much creativity, even in weird unexpected places!
