I feel like some allergies would be way more interesting in like, a medieval setting.
Like, "The Royal Family has a curse most obscure, this shelled plant will make them no more.", and like, you're not sure what that plant is, and it isn't easily accessible (Maybe due to sanctions from the Crown), and you have to go on a journey to get some fucking walnuts or something. I think that sounds neat.
