for some context to this piece, "to turn and remove the key" was written as my final fantasy xiv character who is also a musician, inspired by the woman she has been seeing the past few months and has fallen for. she wrote it following one of their dates, and performed it for her privately at her home weeks later
channeled a bit of harold budd and ryuichi sakamoto (partially in tribute), with feather-soft touches of early nils frahm and sylvain chauveau. taking such a minimal approach with only an instrument and timbre violetta would have access to in eorzea (i added some mystical reverb because she's magic, too) was a lot of fun, and provided an interesting challenge that was quite different from my usual process!
just... a level of romanticism i aspire to. absolutely amazing.
