the dark knight quests might honestly be one of my favorite quest lines in the game. i just finished the hw questlines today and love is such a central theme to the quests im in shambles. i utterly adore stories where love and darkness are two sides of the same coin and this entire job is literally that! and the fact the soul gem itself is a heart shape.. waaah.. if i hadn't already written my wol's lore to be that he's a paladin, id make him be a drk

afkglajdhdbs it took me this long to realize it's shaped like a heart

oh no, the symbolism

but yeah, they're so good!! I just finished the Stormblood dark knight job quests this last week, and I think you're in for a good treat.

(more unorganized thoughts below, which contain spoilers for the DRK Lv. 30 - 60 quests and one major tidbit from Shadowbringers.)

  • haha yes punching moogles >:3
  • while I am sad we didn't get the journal shenanigans from the 30 - 50 quests in the Heavensward quests, they were still really good and very tragic.
    • read the journal if you haven't already btw
    • we do get the journal shenanigans back for stormblood!
  • on the theme of love... I do enjoy the 30 - 50 quests' theme of self-love
    • don't overextend yourself
    • if you can't help that's okay
    • drink some water
    • your darkside loves you
  • speaking of your darkside... this is about to get really muse-y about a topic I don't understand very well. apologies in advance.
    • the Warrior of Light is definitely plural, right?
    • like between Fray and Ardbert, there's definitely some other people living up in that head of theirs.
    • although maybe violently attacking each other and everyone around you over who gets to front isn't the best representation?
    • but maybe it is >:)
    • idk feel free to chime in and help me here ><

Honestly, it's not that hard to make the switch, the first Drk was a paladin, who was excommunicated for killing a priest who hurt a child. to put it lightly. It would not be hard to write something similar into your character lore as progression.

in reply to @Juli-of-the-Mists's post:

the self love aspect of the 30-50 is what got me so invested in the questline! none of the other quests actually focus on the wol to that degree, its usually the wol is there for other people's problems. it makes me happy to see some focus on them dealing with the fact that all this shit is happening to them. and woo i can't wait for the stb ones! i haven't read the journal actually i should do that hssjdgf

For me personally, it's bitter sweet. I do love the self love bit, pulling the player frustration of having to do fetch quests as a world savior, generally being unthanked for the good we do ect. But also just, as someone with a deep connection to characters I create myself, I don't like that it created emotion based lore for my Warrior of light that I didn't really have a say in. Like, the WoL is designed to be a blank slate, just like all "Create-your-own character" games. And that's what lets you build your own story around the main one, and I feel the drk questline stepped too far towards making assumptions of how my character would feel.

thats true! it was out of character for how i wrote my char, so im seeing it as an au of what could have happened for my char. in certain circumstances, this could have happened. for my own personal canon? nah.
