Just some bug!!!!

  • she/her

Hi i'm Junebug, the bug from online. I'm very cool and everyone who has ever met me loves me.

Trying to figure out if I can do anything about the debt collector that's harassing me

It's from a medical bill last year that as far as I can tell was just... never submitted to my insurance or to me or to anyone, they just sat on it , told no one, and then turned it over the collections after a while

Wondering if there's a way to squeeze out of it cause of this

The collection of debts is highly regulated in the United States, and most debt collectors basically operate entirely as if those regulations don't exist because they know that 99% of their targets are unaware of them. So, yes, there's a lot that you can do, you just have to do some research first to find out what that is.

I don't know if you'll eventually be able to get out of the debt (but maybe!), but you can at least get the collector off your ass for a bit. You shouldn't take the advice of randos on the web for serious matters like this, but I am often told the first step is to ask for a certified letter for the debt. This at least buys you some time, but may result in someone realizing the paper trail for the debt has gaps and calling off the hounds. Or gives you specific things you can point at to say "ah ha!"
