Just some bug!!!!

Hi i'm Junebug, the bug from online. I'm very cool and everyone who has ever met me loves me.

Like... You ever think about the fact that the star Trek universe is irreconcilably different from our own, simply because Star Trek does not exist in it? That marvel and DC universes are both a world where comic superheroes must exist on a completely different scale to our own? That every single piece of media set in the future necessitates an alternate history where it was never made, and in fact most likely many similar works were also never made?

Stories never talk about this stuff because it's boring, but it's a FASCINATING alternate history question. What does British television look like in the world of doctor who given that... There was no doctor who? How has it changed? I think about this stuff constantly.

I was trying to think of things where this isn't true, and the only example I could come up with was Death Stranding, in which the game Death Stranding was implied to have existed before the apocalyptic event (also called the Death Stranding)

There's a short alternate-universe Superman story called Secret Identity where a kid gets Superman powers in a world where Superman comics exist and everyone knows about them. it's kinda maudlin and politically weird but it gets at the tension in the middle of what you're talking about that's fun.

And then there's the worlds where stuff DOES exist because the heroes or whatever are the ones the content is based on. :3

And then you get Human Centipede where HC doesn't exist in the first movie and what happens in the second is based on the 1st being a movie and then in 3, both are movies.

There's the trivia that because the JJ Abrams Star Trek used "Sabotage," surely that universe must also have "Intergalactic," which refers to Mr Spock and his Vulcan nerve pinch

Or my favorite, that Joseph Joestar refers to Weird Al Yankovic by name, but only as "Al Yankovic," so it's impossible to know if he's still considered Weird in the setting of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure
