Just some bug!!!!

  • she/her

Hi i'm Junebug, the bug from online. I'm very cool and everyone who has ever met me loves me.

Is the fact that part of the reason these are such a big problem is because we've spent YEARS building an Internet and a world that requires endless meaningless info slop to keep going.

How many spam emails do you get a day? How many emails that aren't technically spam but are just meaningless advertisements and subscriptions? How many posts on social media are absolutely nothing, utter trash to fuel the endless scroll? How many games websites tried to fire all their god writers to pivot to endless "here's how to open chest 3 in batman game" articles? How many news websites just report "look at this funny tweet" to spam your news apps with?

And let's even go beyond the internet. School is an endless parade of essays and tests that mostly teach nothing and ask people to regurgitate info. Jobs usually require endless emails and discussions to keep management happy where you're trying to please the dumbest motherfuckers on earth by writing something that looks smart. Capitalism breeds endless stupid products, and every stupid product needs ad copy, packaging design, and a host of other trash. We fill landfills faster then anyone could possibly imagine.

Is it any wonder that after creating a culture of burying people under endless meaningless slop so a few people can get rich, when someone creates The Ultimate Slop Machine it becomes a massive problem?

YEARS

Decades, I think. You could maybe trace it all the way back to television becoming ubiquitous but I think there was a sharp acceleration in that phenomenon when cable, and the 24-hour cable news cycle, came into existence in the late 80's and 90's.
