This meme is powerful and i didnt fully understand why until now. And i think a lot of people miss the point.

The "videogame industry", the culturally and economically dominant subset of gamemakers, struggles to define "good games" as something only they can produce. Long, beautiful, and technologically advanced, made over years by a large amount of highly skilled people.

As players, accepting this dominate ideology limits what we can enjoy in the world of games.

As gamemakers, who aren't creative directors of a large studio, accepting this means we really fucked up. We internalized our own exclusion from the production of culture. Attempting to make games that approach these values in other contexts hurts. Can one person make a four plus hour video game? yes but over how many years???

That's why we must redefine what makes a game "good", deconstructing the fuck out of it. Don't hate your own games because they dont live up to standards created to hurt you.

If we can learn a perspective of games that loves us back, then we can play more weird cool shit and not feel terrible about our marvelous lil guys.

Make and love bad video games to save all our souls

maybe i can clarify for you a bit?

you don't have to love any game ever. especially failed commercial games.
the point is that what we consider good and bad is determined by popular commercial game development for the most part. like having a glitch-less polished experience is way easier for a company for paid QA vs a game made in a weekend.

Of course if you can't load a game it won't appeal to you but I think putting effort into changing your tastes to care less about zero bugs, care less about polished art, care more about interesting and novel ideas, and care more about interesting details is worth it. and those interesting details includes glitches for me.

so yes love bad games, but I'm not gonna force you to play bubsy 3d 24 hours a day unless you really get on my nerves.

I love your stupid fucking comment. Hahaha. You're like deliberately misinterpreting the OP and starting a fight for no reason. It rules. Thank you for taking the time to craft this experience. The argument got them to write more and made them look better while making you look worse. You're really good, sacrificing your reputation like this! I admire that!

I know this reads like sarcasm, but it isn't. Some garbage comments are just bigotry and have no value. Yours isn't. They responded with essays I loved reading. You participated in beauty, kicking and screaming.

Yeah, when I read "bad games" it's either Literally Unplayable or Uber-Popular GOTY-Winning AAA Slop.

I want the games that aren't either of those. The good ones, that are considered bad because they don't sell 40 million copies and 3 DLCs.
