In the context of video games and then eventually broader fiction "Lore" used to mean extra tidbits, trivia, ephemeral information that was interesting but nevertheless unimportant.
Then it started to become used for the overall setting in general. The main purpose of a plot relevant organization? Lore. The religious beliefs of the main character? Lore. The magic artifact you need? Lore.
Then it started to subsume "backstory" and basic biographical information. Age of character? Lore. Motive for actions? Lore. Their name??? Lore.
My question is this: How long until the word "story" or "narration" is replaced by "Lore"?
I can so very easily see people asking "What's the Lore?" and meaning "What's the story about?"
