its city design. they don't bring up purely why this design came about (racism and capitalism acting in dovetail, see Village of Euclid v. Ambler Realty Co. (1926) and its background in more explicitly race based covenants in the 19-teens). but suburban design makes us lonely, and anxious, pushes us towards toxic nuclear family constructions, robs us of any way of socializing in public that isnt somehow connected to purchasing a product, and prevents revolutionary consciousness.
