I’ve seen it argued that we stop calling things “artificial intelligence” when they become commonplace, and that doesn’t mean “AI” is a useless term, it just means we keep moving the goalposts.
I disagree with that argument. There is no goalpost moving. We don’t actually know what intelligence is, and we describe new technologies that are poorly-understood as “AI” in the same way some people argue that “God’s domain” is anything not understood by science. “AI” is the tech industry’s God of the Gaps.
We think a thing is “AI” until we become familiar with it and understand what it is, at which point we realize it was never “AI”.
