It's probably more distracting and like, less something you actually SHOULD do with fiction than with non-fiction but god i love encountering annotations in library books. They're so rarely good or useful but I love these little anonymous glimpses into another person's life. I love picturing the person who added quotation marks to one page of this copy of Blood Meridian before giving up, or who added a little checkmark to literally every Lenin quote (and a little X next to one Trotsky quote) in a copy of On Leninism I read years ago. The constant spelling corrections throughout this copy of Parable of the Sower are less amusing but still charming. I love it
