The Fey

This article covers a subject of ongoing research.

Understanding of the Fey and their society is likely to change as more records are uncovered. As such, the information in this article may change to reflect new discoveries.

The Fey were an ancient race of peoples that were spread all across Magia Ĉielo. Their civilizations existed long before modern times, before falling in what has been referenced in Fey texts as the Grim War.

The term Fey is derived from ancient texts written by the Fey themselves. It is thought to be a shortened form of the Fey word Feylain, which is the formal name many official Fey records use. The Fey language is still undergoing translation by archaeologists and other researchers, but through the use of magic some meanings have been roughly deciphered.

Apperarance and Biology

Main article: Fey Appearance and Biology

The Fey were a varied race of peoples that were predominantly insectoid in appearance, though notably they were all anthropomorphic in stature. They commonly exhibited traits such as having six limbs, a three-segmented body consisting of a head, thorax, and abdomen, and a chitinous exoskeleton. There were also some Fey that appeared arboreal in nature, and others that took on more mineral and earth based appearances.

Their biology is theorized to have eschewed to be something of a combination of the biology of standard insects, and biological standards one might expect of a more long-lived species of sentient and anthropomorphic people.

History

Main article: Fey History

Fey civilizations started out nomadic in nature, but drifted towards forming stationary settlements as they became more aware of magic and its capabilities. These settlements grew slowly into larger collectives akin to city-states. Many of these city-states initially started as containing only Fey of one particular sub-race, but as trade and communication between the city-states flourished they rapidly diversified.

As these city-states flourished, they researched ever further into magic and its uses, inventing a great many things - some of which have influenced current day research and development. One development of note was a new class of magic that current systems of magic have been unable to replicate, dubbed destructive class magic. This magic soon led to an outbreak of wars and a consolidation of the city-states into powerful empires.

At this time, a large conflict known only as the Grim War broke out between the Fey and an until-then unknown force called the Neht. The inciting event of this war, and even the efficacy of the existence of the Neht is uncertain, but the scale of it consumed all of Fey culture. The conclusion of the Grim War has not been uncovered, so it is largely believed that this war completely eradicated the Fey. What happened to the Neht and why there have been no traces of this supposedly great opposing force is unknown.

Culture

Main article: Fey Culture

Fey culture is as varied as the Fey themselves were, and seemed to shift greatly as the eras of Fey history came and went. Much of Fey culture is still to be uncovered, as it appears that much of it was either destroyed or lost during the Grim War. What has been found and translated shows a society of great knowledge and equity. During the early eras of Fey society, much of their artistic works depict a singular godlike entity that was dubbed the Arcane Source. These works appear to show reverence for this being, and depict various rituals and events for celebrating and worshipping it. It is of note that the Arcane Source matches the descriptions and understandings modern knowledge has of Magic. It is for this reason that scholars believe that Magic created the Fey much in the same way it created Valeans.

During the eras of growth and prosperity of the Fey, their culture seemed to grow beyond just reverence of the Arcane Source and into contemplating its desires for the Fey as a people. Amidst this philosophical work, however, there was a common thread of hedonism and pleasure, as the Fey seemed to celebrate their own societal progress alongside the Arcane Source's benevolence.

In later eras, most distinctly in the wake of the discovery of destructive class magic, there was often displays of unrest and dissatisfaction with the governing bodies of the city-states. This cultural period seems to have been culturally defined by constant anti-war messages, playing off of what is assumed to be government-funded propaganda programs.

Hmm... looks normal so far. No obvious shit at least. Damage is probably in one of the sub-articles.

Why do they structure it like this? All the detailed info is buried away.

Cuz most people don't wanna read that much, duh.

Well I do.

Yeah, cuz you're a nerd!

Hey, be nice.

Oh c'mon, you know I'm saying it with love!

Yeah, sure.

siiiigh My point still stands.

Mmm... it bothers me too. I've seen the page view stats. Most of the time when there's sub-articles, people just kind of ignore them.

They could just put that information in the main article and have less to maintain...

Yeah, but the guys in charge of the content are always rambling about "keeping it short" or something. They're so obsessed about article length, it's ridiculous.

I'm tellin' ya, it's cuz reading is boring.

To you. You're outnumbered on that opinion here and you know it.

That's cuz you're both neeeerds. With love, of course~

Right. Anyways. Let's start digging a bit more, starting with the appearance sub-article.

Why? Isn't it just gonna be in the culture one like it was last time? They always go for that article.

Because there's always a chance they went for the other ones too. Gotta be thorough.
