wish i could mod my old zune hd to play flac files and be drag and drop compatible. i miss having a dedicated music player

if anyone knows some portable music players that work with flacs and won't break the bank, let me know - i'd prefer one with a bespoke ui and navigation system instead of android slapped into a touch screen, of course

The usual go-to is to grab a Sansa Clip (most any model) and put Rockbox on it, then you can manage your music on a FAT32 microSDXC and it will play FLAC. Sansa Clip+ is The Default Model everyone says to get but you will not find one cheap anymore, I have a Clip non-plus and a Sport and they work the same. The Rockbox port is so good it feels like it the intended firmware for the device, and SanDisk for some reason decided to use extremely good audio circuitry with very low noise floor for this series so you can listen on nice earbuds and you won't hear any hissing.

If you don't find a different music player you like I think Zune supports WMA Lossless. You could convert your FLACs but that's not exactly the drag and drop you were hoping for. I manage a second copy of my music library in iTunes to use ALAC on iPod and it was a similar pain in the ass to set up but it's an option.

i'll consider it for sure, it's not exactly my preferred form factor but i could work with it!

i WOULD like to use my zune a lot since i still really love its design and interface, but lacking drag and drop really is the deal breaker - it basically requires setting up the zune software to get stuff on it, and i COULD do it but last time i had that set up, it was annoyingly finicky....

If you do not mind having buttons instead of a touch screen, the Oakcastle MP200 has had no issues with FLAC files and accepts a microSD to expand its storage. It can also be plugged in and have files drag-and-dropped into either its main storage or the microSD. It's pretty affordable in this one's experience.
