Been following you for a long time, and it's been great to see the work on BEP that you've done over the years.

Since you were inviting questions, mine would be

How are you feeling about the project in its current state? Any goals for it at the moment?

If people knew how close the game was to being done they'd be mad as hell at me. It's really the last mile. It's the last HALF mile. But it's also all tedious stuff. Goals are to write some dialog for a sorta ending area and do some menuing for the bonus modes in the game.

I like the game? I think parts of it are really good? I think it feels way more old school than most faux-retro games, but I don't know if that's necessarily a good thing? Like it is for me but like BUSINESS WISE, who knows.

Even if it doesn't do well I know some people are going to appreciate an honest to god old school feeling game that hasn't been poisoned by Shovel Knight's influence (no shade toward Shovel Knight directly but like... that game changed how people made throwback games).

I absolutely love the idea of a throwback game actually being a throwback, and not a modern game with the veneer of a retro game. There are a lot of design considerations and nuances that can really change how a game feels to play, and many of these have gotten lost or "improved" over the years; the classicvania jumping/knockback mechanics for instance.

I think it's awesome that you're making a game for your own ideals and wants in a game, and curtailing some of this for mass appeal. Hopefully, and I think this is the case, there are plenty of people out there that would like to see more games in this vein.

Good luck on the rest of the work, and I'll play it happily the day it drops :eggbug-smile-hearts:

It works out well that I started before a lot of trends started to happen. I also tried my best to avoid playing a lot of similar games... and now that a lot of time has past, it's weird... I feel like now that a certain faux-retro style has emerged, it makes BEP kinda stand out more than it would have like 5 years ago.

But also like... that's how I feel, people might play it and just go "idk it's just janky and unpolished" 😭
