There's one! But if we wanna start for real we gotta go way back to self insert time
This is like... 1995 or something like that. when Kayin was just me, for RPing on AOL. The typical self insert. But as time went on, and I suspiciously stopped caring about drawing boys, and ended up focusing more on playing his daughter, Cassara, he became more of a background character. Even Kayin himself kinda became a rejection of this of a lot of manly traits. Back in the day everyone wanted their boys to be TALL, tall tall tall, 6 foot minimum, 6'3, 6'6, no 7"! So I made him small, just a little 5'4" dude, made him soft. Made his daughter the hot head, made her 6'3, etc etc. And like all the chuuni teens you made characters like angels or something, or demi gods or something so Kayin was one of the chosen "sashni" of the goddess Scifera, one of her hands on earth. At a certain point he stopped representing me, we just shared a name.
As I got older, I started focusing on different stories and characters and getting more grounded (as one does), but I decided I didn't need to throw all this away. You just can't have someone like this a a focal protagonist of a story. They had to be more in the area of lore.
If you want there is a whole origin story for this version of earth and the Sashi but the important parts are the Goddess Scifera did not create humanity, she found them, and her attempts to help them often have proved disasterous. A clumsy, adoptive parent. And so her children, attempts to emulate humanity, also came out mostly flawed, either lacking the ability to remain their sanity over hundreds of years, or not being connected enough to humanity to act in their interest.
Kayin was the child made to be directly raised by humanity, to travel the world make connections and learn, before finally being given person. His other person was to eventually marry and have a child with a compatible human, with the goal of both giving him another connection to the world (giving the wife immortality), and creating a sashni that has inherit tethers to humanity (Cassara). Kayin traveled the world and had many wives (and probably husbands, lets be real), until eventually meeting a cross dressing WW1 german soldier who Scifera says "yes her," to... But Kayin skips town cause he's sick of outliving lovers. So now she's immortal and confused and ends up a eventual defecting WW2 nazi hunter Sniper who immediately shoots the little twink who hasn't aged either in decades as soon as she sees him. From there, him and the sniper, Reese, get married, have a kid, Cassara, and try and save the world and boop no sorry the world got ruined and destroyed and now there's magic and that is both good and bad and whoops Scifera used her ethereal magic body to coat the earth, giving people souls and having the arcane powers be drawn from her world enveloping spirital corpse. Damn, 2016 sucked. Well... damn, now what??
Cassara is more of the mover and shaker in that time period, but this is about Kayin so the important thing is more how he contrasts with his daughter, not just physically, but in personality. Extrovert vs introverse, empathetic vs introsspective, patient vs brash. Cassara, by design, is kinda The Destroyer. She is a way for Scifera to destroy her mistakes, burn things out of existance. Kayin is more like water, flexible, effortless but powerful when necessary. He more embodies the spirit of living life, so he tries to help his daughter become more well adjusted, and patient, and be both respectful and fearful of the power they have.
Kayin himself is kinda eccentric and eclectic He's been in so many cultures his dress and mannerisms are both familar and kinda off to everyone. He's perfect for the aggressive multicultural blended world that happens after shit gets fucked. He loved gardening and cooking. He's fucking Gomez Addams over his kinda scary wife. Extremely socialable. A trait I still share with him is he's a serial hobbiest who loves collecting sklills. While less impressive in a world with literal magic, he's good at old world magic and slight of hand.
But he's also been through a lot, and has done a lot of killing. He will avoid killing needlessly, but when he does, he will kill without remorse, as if to protect him self. Compared to Cass, who is very emotional and while she seems far more violent, she takes many of the deaths she inflicts way more to heart.
In the old world, while he was really skilled in a lot of fighting styles, he was... kinda a barbarian! Immortal, blessed by god! Just overpower things and don't worry about defense like sure you COULD die, but that's really heard! Once we get into proper Brave Earth, with magic, that... strength isn't all impressive anymore. He's suddenly a Street Fighter character in Guilty Gear. He ends up more being a fast little zippy guy with experience using all swords of swords. For weapons I've usually done two katanas, but one set up I like is in the picture up top. He'd just carry that claymore across two continents, end up in Japan and he just... kept breaking swords and going back to the claymore. Eventually he gets one of those turbo thick katanas like the Lone Wolf and Club guy has and goes with that too. If I were to draw him again (it's been over 10 years) I think I'd do more to add more culturally ambigious bits lof cothing to his design. His time in japan stuck with him and it gave him the surname that stuck with him the longest, but I feel like because of that, other elements of his character should contrast that more.
But at the same time, it's not too important because he's kinda the type of character now that you'd read about in a Souls game's item description. Important, in some ways, but far off camera.
Here, one more from 2006 in more contemporary clothes. Again, never drew him much, always just drew girls instead how strange...
