Possibly! But I at minimum do not think any of the sightings in the united states post 2000 were real.

it's pretty telling that we have millions of cheap and readily available cameras all over the freaking place and nobody can get a pic of one. but also, how many people are actually looking?
a small but vocal minority of twitchers who want to be famous. i wouldn't feel so strongly about it if they weren't constantly wasting the IUCN's time, and i'd be thrilled to be proven wrong, but in the meantime i find them about as believable as bigfoot sightings.
The folks who have been looking claim they've found something. I haven't yet read the paper.
