Well,

  1. Generally accepted as true.
  2. Sometimes argued.
  3. I'm sure at least one German believes this.
  4. I'd be surprised if anyone alive today tried to argue this.
  5. …if you're really passionate about the Roman Republic and reject the legitimacy of the Roman Empire??
  6. I think this was literally argued in a Chick tract, so lmfao no.
  7. According to more doomer-inclined Russian Empire stans, maybe?
  8. Some Spanish monarchists argue this.
  9. I'm not sure this is a position anyone holds β€” now, as to whether accepting Christianity precipitated the fall of Rome,
  10. This has been argued enough that Wikipedia acknowledges it on some level.
  11. I'm sure some Constitution-thumping conspiracy theorists believe this.
  12. I've seen this one from lots of WASPs who converted to Russian Orthodoxy soon after February 2022.
  13. There's a case for this! A case that reaches so hard as to basically be dishonest, but a case, which I wouldn't seriously defend!

Like...the current Kingdom of Spain? Or the historical empire that the current kingdom is arguably a successor of?

(fwiw I think both are pretty dumb, the Spanish Empire was feudalistic as hell in a way no centralizing state would ever tolerate)

Constantine XI’s younger brother Thomas was recognized as the heir to the Byzantine Empire by Pope Pius II, and that guy’s son Andreas left it to Ferdinand and Isabella in his will. After supposedly having already sold it to the king of France.
