small social media sites are often tough bc we often use these sites mostly to scroll and view what others say and do. On big sites with algorithms it’s usually easy by design to get sucked in and not do anything other than scroll. For anything that doesn’t have that critical mass of posts yet/ no algo it requires, like, breaking several habits at once. First it requires actually just posting without care of who sees it; a la pre algo instagram frequent posting is “more rewarded” so to speak. Also though it makes you confront when there’s simply not much going on which is like most of the time. There’s a reason the news is like 30 minutes long-7 mins of headlines, 7ish of analysis of those headlines, and the rest filled with essentially the stations choice of features (human interest? Science? International? All possible). To get someone to stay on a site for an extended period of time it requires often a little obfuscation about exactly how much that’s truly relevant to you is going on
