It was very cool of the Romans to invent the letter R, which in European languages has come to mean "just make whatever sound, it's all good". A sort of orthographic reminder that the most important thing is that you give it your all and have fun out there. Oh you pronounce it in a syllable coda as /x/? That's cool, great work, hit the showers.
