The modern clothing industry is real hostile to anyone with non-normative body proportions. You've got makers of mass-produced off-the-rack garments essentially deciding which bodies get to be fashionable and which ones don't. Sure, the prevalence of elastic fibers expands the range of bodies that can wear a single garment, but if you stretch too much, or in the wrong place, you're told you should "just give up".
