its placing too much of the blame on what people feel they can control (their peers' individual decision making) and less on institutions that cause the problem (down to the local level and even down to the chairs of your local con/furry meetup/whatever). a lot--a LOT--of people will just follow what institutions tell them to do, and the best way to describe their politics is "incoherent and mostly based around lack of sticking out socially." the best way to target people like this is through institutional fights taken over a long period of time

actively opposing and going as far as to issue legal challenges against masking and vaccinations, and denormalizing those things (forcing me into the position of being the “weird other who still does it”) is like the reason i feel utterly betrayed by my union at work, and they’ve utterly alienated me and lost my support as a result

that's totally fair. my union hasnt gone quite that far, but that's partially bc im in leadership and push it as an issue at the local level not just the shop level. this is a place where labour can and should lead and im trying to be a part of that solution

unrelated specifically to masking they’re at least likely to be in a strike position over pay vs cost of living soon and im letting myself be maybe a little bit hopeful that having a common cause that benefits everyone involved might do, idk what exactly, but something
